Frequently Asked Questions
Answers about how EVIT verifies reports, protects your privacy, and supports accessibility.
Verification Methodology
How EVIT reviews submissions and turns raw reports into trusted electoral intelligence.
How are reports verified?
Every submission is reviewed before it becomes part of the public record. Our analysts assess the evidence provided (photos, videos, source links and descriptions), cross-check details against credible sources, and validate the reported location. Reports are never published automatically — human review is always part of the process.
What do the verification statuses mean?
Each report carries one of four statuses. "Pending" means the report has been received and is awaiting review. "Investigating" means analysts are actively cross-checking the details. "Verified" means the incident has passed our review and is supported by credible evidence. "Rejected" means the report could not be substantiated. Only verified reports appear on the public dashboard.
What does the review process involve?
Reviewers examine the incident type, date, location and supporting media, compare the account with other reports and public sources, and apply the same evidence standards to every submission regardless of who is involved. Where useful, an AI-assisted fact-check summary supports — but never replaces — the human reviewer.
How does EVIT ensure data quality?
We use structured moderation, geospatial validation, and consistent, non-partisan criteria. Duplicate and unsubstantiated reports are filtered out, and verified incidents are preserved as a permanent public record that supports research, journalism and election observation.
Privacy & Anonymity
How we protect people who speak up and handle the information you share.
Can I report anonymously?
Yes. Anonymous reporting is fully supported. When you choose to report anonymously, you are not required to provide your name, email or phone number. Providing contact details is always optional and only helps us follow up if we need to clarify a report.
How is my personal information handled?
Any personal information you choose to provide is used only to process and, where necessary, verify your report. Personal details are never published publicly without consent and are kept separate from the public incident record.
How is my data protected?
We apply access controls, role-based permissions, secure transmission and secure storage to safeguard the information you submit. Sensitive data is protected throughout the reporting and verification process. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Who can see my report?
Only authorised reviewers can see the full submission, including any contact details. Once a report is verified, only the non-identifying incident details (such as type, date, location and description) are shown on the public dashboard.
Multilingual Support & Accessibility
Language availability, planned expansion, and how we work toward an inclusive platform.
What languages is EVIT available in?
EVIT is currently available in English, which is Nigeria’s official language and the most widely understood language for national civic participation.
Will more languages be added in the future?
Yes. Expanding language support is part of our roadmap, with priority given to Nigeria’s most widely spoken languages such as Hausa, Yoruba and Igbo, so that more citizens can report and follow election incidents in the language they are most comfortable with.
What accessibility considerations does EVIT follow?
We aim for a mobile-first, responsive experience that works on low-cost devices and slower connections. The platform uses semantic markup, descriptive text alternatives for images, keyboard-navigable controls and readable typography so that the widest possible audience can report and access election information.
